How to Write an Effective ‘About’ Page

Most websites or blogs have an ‘About’ page which contains some details about the owner. However, in many cases, such pages are very ineffective. An ‘About’ page is meant to offer basic information about you the owner and the services or products that you offer. This is what people want to see when they visit this page.

The following are some ideas that can help you make your ‘About’ page more effective.

1. Outline the basic facts immediately

When people visit an ‘About’ page, they want to see where, what and who details. Usually, before they visit that page, they will have looked through your site and seen your posts. They then go to the ‘About’ page to find out more about the owner of the site. Make sure that your page contains the basic information within the first few lines.

Once you have offered the basic information (who you are, what services or products you offer), you can then go on to include other additional details.

2. Mention your location

It is very vital to mention your location in the ‘About’ page. This will enable you to capture the market which is within your location. However, if you don’t mind travelling, be sure to mention this on the page. Some potential clients may actually be ready to take care of your travel expenses.

3. Make it concise and simple

Make sure the page is easy to read and short. It should not be too wordy, filled with information which is confusing or unimportant. Avoid using technical jargon and keep it as simple as possible. The aim of your about page should bring your way more shooting assignments.

4. Write in ‘first person’

Since your site contains your own blog posts and work, your ‘About’ page needs to be written in ‘first person’ style for consistency.

5. Include a photo

People will always appreciate seeing your photo on the ‘About’ page. A picture helps people perceive you as a real person when talking to you on phone or writing to you.

It is really tricky to write a good About page. Although, it is the most vital part of any blog, it is still the one that most people make mistakes in.They either make meaningless about pages or make it really long and winding.
