Guidelines for Effective Blogger Outreach

Blogger outreach is one of the best ways of promoting your product or business to your target audience in the blogosphere. However, if it is not done properly, it will only end up irritating other bloggers. When reaching out to bloggers to help you promote your business, products or services, there are some mistakes you need to avoid. First, you should not send mass emails. Any blogger you are reaching out to will be put off when they realize that you are using the same template to send emails to many other people on your list. In addition, you should not make the mistake of sending bloggers pitches for topics which are not relevant to their niche.

The following are some general guidelines for effective blogger outreach.

  1. Research

Take time to find out more about the blogs you intend to reach out to. Check out their most recent comments, archives, posts and social engagement. Once you find out what the blogger’s audience wants, you will be able to create a pitch which will offer value to them.

  1. Develop a relationship with the blogger

Don’t just contact the blogger and immediately ask then to review your product. You should first take time to build a relationship with them, as well as their readers. Visit their blog and leave comments on their posts. Share their posts with your network on Facebook or Twitter. Join their Facebook page or mailing list to stay updated on their developments. By showing interest and adding value to their audience, you are likely to build a strong relationship with the blogger.

  1. Personalize your pitch

When creating a pitch for a blogger, make sure it is specifically tailored for them. The personal nature of your pitch should be obvious from the first sentence of the email sent to the blogger. If you write something like ‘I’ve just read your inspiring article on techblogke.com. Your audience might also be interested in learning about ABC’, then the blogger will see that you have actually visited their blog.

  1. Don’t pitch incessantly

All your communications with bloggers should not just be about wanting them to do something for you. As you build relationships with bloggers through social networks or their blogs, you will understand what they are passionate about. Once in a while, you could send them tweets or emails like ‘Check out this article on ABC….thought you might be interested’. Bloggers are usually very grateful when they are informed about anything related to their niches.

  1. Offer benefits

Offering the blogger benefits is very important. This does not necessarily imply paying for posts to be published, but offering content which their audience would be interested in. If possible, offer free giveaways for the audience. Your relationship with the blogger should be mutually beneficial. Therefore, make sure you promote the blog to your own audience as well.
